Tsunami Appeal Fundraiser !!
The
enormity of the tsunami disaster has shocked all of us, but few of us are
able to offer direct help. One person who can is my friend Tim Ubhi, a
doctor who lives in Bramham. He is travelling out to Thailand to use his
medical skills to help identify those who died and to help treat those who
survived with serious injuries. He will be taking with him drugs and
vaccines that will, in a small but important way, help prevent the spread of
secondary diseases that could spark a further tragedy. Although Tim has
managed to obtain free flights and subsidised accommodation, the costs of
his trip and the medical supplies could run to almost £3000 so he needs our
support.
The
regulars in The Swan (Sam’s) in Bramham have already been very generous but
there is still a long way to go. As many of you know, I promote a number of
bands each year in Bramham Village Hall. To make sure that Tim’s costs are
covered, I have offered to donate the profit on ticket sales from our next
band and the Village Hall Committee have offered to donate the bar profits
from the night. Coupled, with some extra fund-raising on the night, I am
confident we can raise at least £3000. Actually, we have to succeed because
Tim will already have spent the money!
The band
will be Loserville from Hassleholm in Sweden. I know you will all be asking
who they are but trust me that these guys are worth listening to! Expect to
hear some very catchy guitar based songs with some great choruses. They will
only be in the UK for a few days, playing at The Borderline Club in London
on the Friday before heading up the M1 to Bramham on the Saturday. The
Borderline is one of the best known London venues and I think it reflects
well on Bramham that we are viewed to be on the same circuit.
Support
is from my sister-in-law, Nicki Allan and her band. Many of you will
remember Nicki from her singing with Micky Kemp. This time, she will be
playing blues and soul standards as well as some of her own material.
These are
two great bands so please make every effort to come along to hear some great
music and help us achieve our target.
As usual,
tickets are £10 and are available from John at Bramham Post Office or from
me (call 01937 845651).
There is
already a lot of interest in Bramham so please get your tickets early – I am
sure that we are going to sell-out!
