Books of Remembrance
If you would like the name of your departed loved one to
appear in the Books of Remembrance and in the magazines at the appropriate
time of the year, please note, this does not happen automatically .
You should, therefore, make the necessary request by
completing a purple form, which can be obtained from the table at the back
of church, and returning the form to Fr Hugh, one of the Church Wardens.
Alternatively contact Gill Young who will complete the form for you.
All the names entered in the remembrance books are held
in a data base operated only by the Parish Priest. From the data base, all
names are entered into the Books of Remembrance, the Parish Magazines and
the weekly Group Newsletter. In this way, everyone can be remembered by name
in our prayers across our group of parishes.

Alteration to Service Schedule at
All Saints’ Church Bramham
Further talks have been held with The Rev Gary Ridley,
Methodist Minister in our district. This follows the complete agreement of
the PCC of All Saints’ Bramham in April of this year that we would be
privileged to welcome Bramham Methodist Congregation into All Saints’ Church
on a regular basis. The September to December 2004 Methodist Service Plan
has now been published and beginning in September 2004 on each 4th Sunday of
the month, the main Act of Worship in All Saints; Bramham will be
Methodist led and will begin at 10.00 am NOT 9.30 am)
It is the happy facts of history that our organist
(Simon Noble) was previously the organist of Garforth Methodist Church and
that the organ in All Saints’ Bramham came from Darlington Methodist Church!
As stated previously there will be a celebration of Holy Communion the
evening before (6.00 pm as usual) and on the 4th Sunday our usual 8.00 am
celebration of Holy Communion according to the Book of Common Prayer. This
is a most heartening development and I pray that this will lead to closer
relationships. I believe this to be the work of the Holy Spirit and I for
one am deeply thankful for it.
Fr Hugh

| The Parish Magazine is now on the Bramham
Website
The Bramham website (www.bramham.org.uk) has recently been
updated.
You can now see a copy of the
Parish Magazine contents, on the website, on the usual monthly
basis. The Diary page indicates the events happening in the
area, by date, with a link through to the description of the event in the
magazine page.
The Local Trades pages now reflect the adverts placed in the
magazine. However if you are a local business and would like a leader advert
on the navigation page headers, leading to your own web page of information
- please contact Gill Young.
If you have information of an event
and would like it in the diary and/or the magazine - please contact Gill
Young. If the event is too late for the magazine publication date or would
be more suited to the web site itself - please send dates and details at
anytime to the Webmaster.
The Parish Council have
had their own pages on the site for a while now, where you can keep
up-to-date with the important local issues.

I LOVE TO LIVE
Today dear Lord I’m 80 and
there’s much I’ve not done
I hope dear Lord you’ll let me live
until I’m 81.
But then, if I haven’t finished all I
want to do,
Would you let me stay awhile until I’m
82?
So many places I want to go, so much I
want to see,
Do you think that you could manage to
make it 83?
The world is changing very fast, there
is much in store,
I’d like it very much to live until I’m
84.
Then if by then I’m still alive, I’d
like to stay ‘til I’m 85.
Research is moving fast so I’d really
like to stick,
To see what happens in the world when
I’m 86.
I know dear Lord, it’s much to ask, and
it must
be nice in heaven,
But I would really like to stay until I
am 87.
I know by then I won’t be fast and
sometimes will be late,
But it would be so pleasant to be
around at 88.
I will have seen so many things and had
a wonderful time,
So I will be quite willing to leave at
89.
Just one more thing I’d like to say,
dear Lord,
I thank you kindly,
But if it’s OK with you, I’d love to
live past 90.

THE
YORKSHIRE COUNTRYWOMEN’S ASSOCIATION
We had another successful open evening
in June, at which Mr Barry Wilkinson held an Antiques Valuation Session. He
gave a most interesting talk to an audience of over forty members and
friends as well as valuing the articles which they brought with them.
An equally enjoyable Summer Social was
held on a lovely warm summer evening at the home of Mrs Barton in July.
We are now about to commence our
Autumn season of meetings.
The speaker at our next meeting on
Wednesday 16th September at 7.30 pm in the Village Hall will be Mr R.

Dear Friends,
I heard someone at a recent meeting
draw an analogy between Methodism and a greyhound meeting. Initially I
thought rather humorously to myself that it was an usual comparison to make.
However, he then began to explain the point he was making, which simply was
that just as at a greyhound meeting the dogs are quietly let into the traps
and then as the traps are open the dogs come flying out at breakneck speed
in pursuit of the hare, so too in Methodism we have a quiet and subdued
spell through the month of August. But then come the first day of September,
when the Methodist church year begins, there is a huge and sudden flurry of
activity and the race is on as it were.
He had a valid point. September in
Methodism marks the time when Ministers and other circuit staff take up
their new appointments, when the regular array of church activities kicks in
again and we engage in a vast programme of evening meetings and special
events, which will carry us through to August of next year when the cycle
repeats itself. At times we think we are on a loser from the start and we
are left wondering how on earth we are going to get through it all,
especially for those who are called to leadership positions in the church
whether they be ordained or lay. However, there can be a very positive side
to this routine. We may wring our hands at the number of committee meetings
we have, but God can and does work through committees, especially if there
is a solidarity of purpose among the members and an open and genuine desire
to seek and do the will of God.
There is a sense of course that we are
never able to achieve all that we want to and some things remain out of our
grasp for the time being. Falling short of some of our aims is a tension we
have to live with. Nevertheless, we can thank God for those things that have
been achieved through persistence and steadfast work and devotion. Of
course, in all things we depend upon the grace of God, through His action in
us. I leave you to reflect upon the words found in the letter to the Hebrews
in the light of the challenges that lie ahead. “Let us run with perseverance
the race marked out for us. Let us fix our eyes upon Jesus, the author and
perfecter of our faith.”
Rev. Gary Ridley
BRAMHAM PARISH COUNCIL
The Parish Plan for “Bramham in Times Future”
A few years ago, a number of villagers got together and
produced a book entitled “Bramham – The Village in Times Past” illustrating
how the village had developed over the last 100 years. Many people found it
fascinating and surplus from its sales gave the village new staging blocks
for the village hall, a new path through the churchyard, hymn books for the
Methodists plus charitable donations to the Macmillan appear, Marin House
and the Candlelighters. More money still remains to be invested when the
last few remaining copies are sold – but now
it’s time to move on!
A new group of parishioners has formed a Steering
Committee to produce a plan for the development of the village in the
future. They are:
Cllr Bob Gibson (Chairman)
Sue Craven
Keith Robinson (Vice Chairman) Iain Kimberley
Lee Blanchard
Cllr Paul Topping
Juliet Binns
Ian Watson (Secretary)
This Bramham Parish Plan aims to set out a vision of the
village and guide its future development. The intention is that everyone
shall have the opportunity to participate in its preparation and in how we
see our village life moving forward over the next few years. It will:
· Reflect the views of all sections of the community
· Identify which features and local characteristics
people value
· Identify local problems and opportunities
· Spell out how residents want Bramham to develop in
the future
· Prepare a plan of action to achieve this vision
A questionnaire will be delivered in September asking
what are the three most important things your household (all members, young
and old) would like to see introduced or improved. With a population of over
1750, there will be a lot of varying views but this preliminary survey
should highlight the main wishes of villagers.
Then the Committee will set to work on a second
questionnaire to get the opinions of the whole village on the ideas
mentioned by most people. If for example 100 people want motorcycle races on
Clifford Road every Sunday afternoon, the other 1650 residents might have
other ideas.
Following that, Working Parties will be formed from
groups in the village with the most knowledge of the area concerned to work
out detailed action plans. These will be shown at an exhibition in the
village hall to give residents yet another chance to have their say on the
way things are going. The last step will be publication of the plan with a
copy for every household with a target date of August 2005. So we’ve got to
get moving and we do need everyone’s input. It’s your village, so do get
involved and make the most of it.
Those on the internet can check the progress of the
project by logging on to the Parish Plan website on
www.bramham.org.uk/parishplan

CRIME PREVENTION TIPS
Going on holiday
Before going on holiday, ask your neighbours to keep an
eye on your home while you are away.
Ask them to pick up mail if it builds up into a pile
behind the front door. If you are away for an extended period ask your
neighbour to cut your lawns. Of course you can offer to do the same when
they are away.
Garages and Sheds
Keep garages and sheds locked so that the thief cannot
use your tools and ladders to help them break into your home, or a
neighbours.
Pay particular attention in the summer months when there
is more a tendency to leave things open.
Using Photographs
Think about taking photos of your valuable items. This
may be helpful for items not suitable for postcode marking.
(Free ultra-violet Security Marker Pens still available
from Church).
Bogus Callers
Not all burglars break into homes - some will try to
trick or con their way in. They are known as bogus callers and will pretend
to be on official business from respectable concerns such as the Utility
Companies - Gas, Electricity , Water or the Council. They may claim to be
tradesmen or workmen calling to carry out urgent repairs. They may even
claim to be Police Officers.
Genuine callers should carry an identification card,
preferably displaying their photograph. Do check this carefully.
If you are still not satisfied, do not let them in. Ask
the caller to come back later and arrange for a friend or neighbour to be
present on their return. Treat every stranger with caution. If you are still
worried dial 999 immediately and ask for the Police.

ARTICLES FOR THIS
MAGAZINE
It would be extremely helpful if items for publication in
Bramham Parish Magazine could be submitted on the due date i.e. 15th of each
month, otherwise I cannot always guarantee they will appear.
I have to comply with a deadline provided by A1 Press,
Wetherby, who print the magazines, in order to have them ready for delivery
on the lst of the month. In addition a date has to be booked for the
stapling and delivery to the deliverers.
So you will appreciate if the receipt date
for articles is not adhered to, this affects the other
agreed dates for printing, stapling and delivery and so makes life
unnecessarily difficult and stressful for our willing volunteers.
In an emergency I have been known to be lenient, but
unfortunately it is the same people who are regularly late every month and
so hold up the production. Please, please try and do better!!!
